Client Showcase: Brightway Advisors

Greetings Reader,

Every once in a while, I have the privilege of working on a project that reminds me why I love this work.

The new website for Brightway Advisors is one of those projects.

What made it special wasn't simply the finished website. It was the way it came together.

Every great website starts long before anyone writes a headline.

In this case, it started with strategy.

Marketing strategist Susan Gold worked closely with the Brightway Advisors team to clarify who they are becoming as a business. She challenged them to think beyond the services they provide and define a stronger market position as a financial operations firm—one built on partnership, leadership, and long-term client relationships.

That strategic foundation shaped everything that followed.

My role as copywriter was more than "write a website." It was to translate that strategy into language that sounded unmistakably like Brightway Advisors.

That works best when clients stay engaged.

The Brightway Advisors team never treated copywriting like a handoff. They stayed in the conversation. They questioned words that didn't feel quite right, and shared stories from client meetings. They noticed the subtle difference between something that sounded too polished and something they would actually say.

More than once, we'd arrive at a sentence, and someone around the table would smile and say, "That's us."

Those moments are my favorite part of the process.

Because that's where voice lives.

Not in a clever headline or a memorable tagline, but in the familiar cadence of a conversation.

Once the messaging reflected the Brightway team, the talented designers and developers at Alchemy Three Marketing brought it to life. They transformed the strategy, the messaging, and the brand into a digital experience that feels every bit as thoughtful, approachable, and consultative as the people behind the company.

Congratulations to everyone at Brightway Advisors. It was a privilege to be part of your journey alongside Susan Gold and the Alchemy Three Marketing team.

Working on Brightway Advisors reminded me that a website isn't simply a place to describe what you do. It's often the first conversation someone has with your business.

Which brings me to a question I find myself asking more and more...

If someone spent ten minutes on your website, then met you for coffee, would it feel like they'd already met you?

If the answer is no, your copy may not have a writing problem. There may be a voice problem.

That's a conversation I'd love to have.

Dear Reader, Ask someone to describe their brand voice, and there’s a pretty good chance you’ll hear some combination of: Warm. Professional. Approachable. Well, sure. You’re surely not going to say you want to sound cold, unapproachable, and meaner than bull briar. Those words tell me how you want people to experience you. They don’t tell me what it sounds like to be in a room with you. That’s what I’m listening for. The phrase you keep coming back to. The story you tell when you’re trying...

Hi Reader, One of the challenges of running a business for a long time is that you stop noticing things. The language you use every day feels ordinary because you've been saying it for years. The problems you solve seem obvious because you've solved them hundreds of times. The questions clients ask over and over again begin to feel so familiar that it's hard to imagine someone not understanding the answer. I've come to think of that as living inside the bottle. You can't read the label from...

Hi Reader, Years ago, an insurance agency that offered both personal and commercial insurance hired me to write a client newsletter. The goal was simple. They wanted to stay in touch throughout the year so clients didn't feel like the only time they heard from their insurance agent was when it was time to renew a policy. That made perfect sense. We didn't spend much time reminding people that accidents happen or that they should review their policies. Instead, we showed what good insurance...
