a few words on creativity

Dear Reader,

It’s not often that I leave a conversation wishing I had responded differently, but alas, I’m human, and I hope you can all still respect me in the morning.

Recently, I attended a networking meeting (in person, to boot—yes, I do occasionally leave my home and don something other than Lululemons and t-shirts!), and someone asked me, "How’s the creative writing going?" My instinct was to talk about book writing, as it's the most tangible form of my creative work these days.

But as I was driving home, reflecting on the conversation, it hit me: all writing is creative.

Whether I’m crafting an email, working on website copy, or brainstorming for a new client project, it’s all an exercise in creativity. Finding the right words, the perfect turn of phrase, and the story that will resonate is all part of the creative journey.

So, the next time someone asks, "How’s the creative writing going?" I’ll likely respond in a new way, allowing myself to be curious about their reason for asking instead of simply giving a straightforward answer.

What’s been sparking your creativity lately? I’d love for you to take a moment to reflect on it and share your thoughts by replying to this email. After all, we are all creative beings, and every day offers us new opportunities to express that creativity in our signature way.

Best,

Greetings Reader, my fellow word lover, Quick question: are you Team Audiobook or Team Visual Book?I’ve been bouncing between both lately, and I’m curious—what’s your go-to? Do you love the feel of a book in your hands or prefer to listen on the go? For me, audiobooks are great for long drives, but only if they have a stellar narrator. Hit reply and let me know which camp you’re in and why! I’d love to hear your thoughts. Bonus points if you have a book with a narrator you love! Best, P.S. At...

Hey there, It’s Judi 411, back from a trip to New York City — part planned, part improvised, and somehow... a full-blown literary adventure. We had tickets to see Othello (Denzel Washington and Jake Gyllenhaal — still reveling in the wonder of it). A stop at The Strand was on the map for serious book browsing. The New York Public Library was another planned destination — though we didn’t realize we’d stumble into an incredible exhibit celebrating the 100th anniversary of The New Yorker.And...
