Riding the Writing Wave (and Keeping You Guessing)

Hi Reader my brilliant 411 crewmember,

Hot on the heels of having an essay accepted (details to come, but yes, you’ll probably have to buy the anthology to get the whole scoop), I’ve decided to ride that wave of momentum straight into new territory.

Among the many adventures in the ongoing saga of Judi Harrington, Writer at Large and Legend in Her Own Mind, I’ve taken a rather bold leap: I’ve applied for a writing residency.

And because I am nothing if not deeply superstitious (and maybe just a smidge competitive), I’m keeping the details close to the vest. I mean, I could tell you… but then I’d have to encourage you not to apply. Kidding. Mostly.

Yes, I’m shrouding this in mystery. But here’s what I can share:

It’s highly selective.

It’s humor-focused.

It involves a prestigious national workshop.

And it includes a residency that’s tougher to crack than some gated communities in the Hamptons.

It’s the kind of opportunity that makes you believe in the power of putting yourself out there—with jokes, heart, and a finely sharpened pencil.

Will I get in? Who knows. Do I think I belong in the running? Absolutely. And honestly, whether I land it or not, this is one of those glorious, leap-of-faith moments that reminds me (and maybe reminds you, too) that the writing life is all about stretching, risking, and reaching.

I’ll keep you posted. In the meantime, send your good juju, your four-leaf clovers, and maybe a cocktail or two.

Something’s in motion.

Best,

Hello Reader, my fellow story lover, A few days ago, I shared the news that one of my essays had been accepted for publication in the next issue of True Tales from The 90-Day Memoir — the anthology created inside Alan Watt’s 90-Day Memoir program. I wrote this piece in a moment of intentional pause, when I’d stepped back from a memoir draft and...
